This role sits on Rivian’s Special Projects Team in Irvine, supporting component, system, and full-vehicle prototype builds as well as marketing and show vehicles. The work spans everything from rough concepts to physical parts, with a focus on fast iteration, practical design tradeoffs, and close collaboration with fabrication and engineering teams.
What you’ll do
Design components for vehicles including show cars, marketing vehicles, and other non-production assets Support vehicle builds from design through release, fabrication, assembly, and in-field usage Engineer components that pull ahead production design to support early build timelines while demonstrating production concepts Use CATIA to design structures, parts, brackets, and other components, including generating 2D drawings Select off-the-shelf content when appropriate based on timeline, maturity, and vehicle function Interface with production engineers, purchasers, and suppliers to deliver products on time
Who you are
Understanding of vehicle systems Hands-on experience with component or vehicle builds, diagnostics, and repairs Ability to assess complex problems in unfamiliar systems Ability to quickly make tradeoffs and decisions to drive progress Knowledge of prototype process and low-volume manufacturing/fabrication, including milling, turning, and welding Ability to use CAD to design parts and generate drawings Strong teamwork skills, collaboration, and a positive attitude Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent
